This is the story of Nathaniel Albring’s journey. Nathaniel was a funny, adventurous, and clever little boy always trying to keep up with his older brothers. Until one day he suffered from a near drowning accident at our home on June 2, 2005. Nathaniel was pulled from our pool not breathing. They told us that Nathaniel would probably not make it through the night, and if he did that he would be severely handicapped. All I could think was Nathaniel could do anything if he put his mind to it.
As a family we have tried to maintain as much of a normal life as we can. We have all learned alot. We're all capable of doing more than we ever thought possible. Our goal is to make Nathaniel's life as good as it can be and always to be searching for new ways to help him get better.
Nathaniel was just recently approved for stem cell treatment overseas. The trip is scheduled for sometime in Fall. The cost of the treatment alone is $50,000. This doesn't include our travel and lodging and travel documents (i.e. passports and travel visas).
There currently are no clinical trials for children approved in the U.S. by the FDA being this is still considered experimental treatment.
Take care
