CAL FIRE Local 2881 and the CDF Firefighters Benevolent Foundation proudly present NO ONE LEFT BEHIND. Our new fundraising effort to raise money for the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
We are trying to raise money for Firefighters and their families who have been diagnosed with cancer. This is our way of giving back to our firefighters in your community and communities up and down the state who have been diagnosed with cancer which has most likely been caused by their occupation.
Researchers have found that compared to non-firefighters, firefighters are twice as likely of developing testicular cancer, 50% higher risk for myeloma & non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and 28% higher risk for developing prostate cancer. From the carcinogens we breath putting out a fire, to the exhaust fumes we inhale when in the engine bays, these daily occurrences cause an increased risk of developing cancer among firefighters. Cancer is becoming a leading cause of death among firefighters!
No One Left Behind’s mission is: “To provide Fire Department members and their families with an opportunity to receive assistance when dealing with cancer. Together we can provide comfort, strength, and hope through our own experiences in dealing with the devastating effects of cancer. Together we can educate Fire Department members regarding the importance of cancer screenings and early detection. Together we can promote an awareness that cancer does not have to be dealt with alone.” It is our goal to ensure that the firefighters, who do so much to help our community, remain healthy and get the support they deserve when they need it.
