Nepal Earthquake Disaster Relief Fund (Relief Fund to help Rebuild Schools in the Rural Areas)
Dear friends of Nepal,
Nepal needs your help urgently - to save lives and rebuild its vital infrastructure. On April 25, 2015, a 7.9-magnitude earthquake devastated the country, killing more than 7,000 people, displacing and injuring twice as many, and destroying numerous cherished historical landmarks. It is estimated that over 8 million people are directly affected by this, and the reports coming in from the remote areas and Kathmandu valley describe damages beyond belief, and the toll on people both in terms of life lost and suffering is expected to rise.
The outpouring from donors - Nepali and foreign - has been tremendous. At the same time, we are concerned that the assistance will not reach the rural areas, the places most affected by the earthquake. Our goal is very specific: we will devote our time and resources to rebuilding schools in the rural areas.
With your generous contributions, we plan to:
1. Develop a program that assists the affected rural areas and monitor closely how your funds are used to rebuild schools and their associated infrastructure;
2. Work with structural engineers in Nepal and the USA, so that the buildings your donations fund are built considering earthquake load;
3. Communicate actively with every donor about the progress being made;
4. Deliver your funds to Nepal through a local non-profit organization whose mission is to rebuild schools through the highest standards of transparency; and
5. Showcase the newly-built schools that adopting earthquake-resistant measures in construction is life-saving.
