Hello! We are NDHS Team Puerto Rico 2015, a group of 36 students, parents, and educators from Notre Dame High School in Elmira, NY who are working hard to raise money for a mission trip to Puerto Rico in July of 2015.
While Puerto Rico is a paradise with beautiful sunrises and sunsets, balmy tropical breezes, and exotic flora and fauna, it is also a location which suffers from abject poverty. Puerto Rico boasts an unemployment rate of 14% and a median annual salary of slightly under $20,000. Many families live in housing lacking electricity and running water, receive limited education, and struggle to put food on the table. This knowledge has inspired and motivated us to help our fellow Americans from July 11 - July 18 this summer. Our group will do work in a variety of areas, which includes, but is not limited to home building and repair, agricultural work, interaction with elderly, children, and those with disabilities.
It is our hope that you will be willing to help support our mission. As a group, the goal is to raise the necessary funds for airfare, ground travel, lodging, meals, and work supplies. The cost per participant is approximately $1100, which will be designated solely for mission expenses. At 36 total members, we need to raise $39,600. Your financial support, of any dollar amount, will help change the lives of those in need. We appreciate any support that you are able to offer us on this journey.
