Welcome to my little crowd funding project.
Let me tell you a bit about myself: I'm Chris and I'm a puppet and props maker, artist and designer. Take a look at my site Paper Moth . Like most creative people, I have a thousand ideas and never any money to get them going.
However, I have had one idea that has stuck with me for a long time. It's quirky, fun, a little dark, but fulfils my inner geek.
I want to make monster and dinosaur taxidermy.
* *I'd quickly like to add this is fabricated, man-made materials used to make fantasy creatures. Not a single actual animal product will be used.**
I want to build and make a range of hyper-realistic, fantastical creature heads, parts, limbs, etc, for people to display as they would deer heads, butterflies, birds and so on.
We are talking fairies and dragons...dragons, people!
So why crowdfunding....
Any creative project like this requires a huge amount of work and resources to get started. There's the designing, patterning and fabrication. Mould making, painting, etc.
The materials used will be things like silicone, latex, plaster, welding and metal work, fibreglass, jesmonite, resin, foams, paint... the list goes on. These materials are very costly.
There is also studio space, website creation and, if successful (my favourite part) spreading the work and employing/bringing on other artists to work on and expand the project.
I also intend to use this project as a way of creating tutorials and giving educational experience to other props makers and learning hobbyists.
Why Go Fund Me?
This project is as short, as is it is tall. If I make a tiny amount of money I can start small. The more I raise the more ambitious I can be and the more artists and other creatives I can also involve.
The bigger the pot, the bigger the creatures we can make.
GoFundMe, unlike Kickstarter, means you don't have to reach a target, and as this project is flexible in its scope, I felt this was the most flexible form of crowdfunding.
I am offering a range of thank yous/products in return for fundings pledged. **You can pledge any amount not just the awards amounts below.**
So please feel free to throw some in the pot - any amount welcome!
