Midwifery School

Over the last three years, I have been learning more and more about women, babies, and the maternity care system in America. I have learned the beauty and spiritual greatness that is home birth with midwives. I have seen women who would have had to have major abdominal surgery (had they been in the hospital) be free to deliver their children in the safety of their own home. The reason I am here today is that I have made the decision to become a licensed midwife. The problem is I need to find a way to raise $3000 for my tuition at Ancient Arts Midwifery Institute. My first goal after graduating from school and becoming licensed is to go to a Central American country, most likely Guatemala, Panama, or Mexico, and for 6 months teach women, men, and children basic safety in order to deliver babies so that mother and baby will live. After I have come back, I intend to open a birthing center in my hometown of Chiefland, Florida. At this time, women in Chiefland must drive a minimum of 45 minutes to receive prenatal care. That is ridiculous. Women deserve better. By opening my birthing center, I will be the catalyst for change in my home. This small, measly amount of $3000 would make a world of difference to women and babies both in my hometown and across the world.
