MALE BREAST CANCER MUSICAL

Donation protected
My name is Khevin Barnes.

I have Male Breast Cancer.

M.B.C. is an "orphan disease". Only 2,600 men are diagnosed with it in the U.S. each year, compared to about 316,000 women.

I am in my third year of survival and have brought together all the creative elements I've used in my professional life to produce a new MUSICAL STAGE SHOW called "Sons of Saint Agatha". It's all about bringing awareness of Male Breast Cancer to a national audience through a sponsored 2 year-long tour.

I know I have the passion and qualifications to produce this show at a national level.  In fact, I’m betting my life on it.  Breast cancer can reappear for any of us at any time.  My decision to pass on the recommended chemotherapy is one I do not regret.  My first wife died of ovarian cancer at the age of 47.  As I watched that long and painful process, I made a promise to myself that if cancer should invade my life I would trade a shorter, active, fully-engaged life, for a possibly longer, agonizing and chemical infused life.

I am healthy at the moment and totally committed to this show.

My background is in theater (a professional stage magician for 40 years) television and writing. I currently write for a number of national Cancer magazines--CURE, CANCER FIGHTERS THRIVE, COPING, HUFFINGTON POST, ANTI-CANCER CLUB and others.    My television work included an Emmy-Award-winning children's television show that I created and co-produced back in 1994--which aired as a prime-time special on CBS stations nationwide.

"Sons of Saint Agatha" is a comedy with 12 toe tapping original tunes.

What’s funny about cancer you may ask? Nothing. But for the 14 million people diagnosed with cancer world-wide every year, laughter and humor can be an integral part of our healing.

Stage musicals have been written about a lot of offbeat subjects. Cats, Fairy tales, The Book of Mormon, Beauty’s and Beasts, Hunchbacks, Elephant men, etc.

Male Breast Cancer is pretty darned goofy when you think about it. And bringing public awareness to our “orphan disease” is not such a bad idea, especially when it’s done in a light-hearted, engaging way.

WE HAVE ALREADY RAISED ENOUGH DOLLARS ($1,900) TO RECORD THE FIRST 9 SONGS IN THE SHOW IN A PROFESSIONAL MUSIC STUDIO WITH TOP-NOTCH SINGERS. The script is well on the way to completion.

THIS IS ROUND TWO OF MY FUNDING to finish up the demo songs, and package the show for our potential show sponsors.

PLEASE consider helping us guys in getting the word out. We’ll make breast cancer information available. We’ll share the nuttiness of Male Breast Cancer with reverence and respect. And we'll make you laugh--and very possibly, shed a tear or two. That's what really good musical shows do after all.

But most of all, by getting the word out through a witty and whimsical professional musical production—we’ll actually SAVE SOME LIVES. Men need to know that guys get breast cancer too!

There’s a ton of Information about the show (and Agatha) on my website:
