MADELYN'S DREAM COMPUTER

Madelyn's Birthday is this month, she will be 12 years old.  We are doing this fundraiser to raise money to purchase a communication device for Madelyn on her 12th birthday.  

Our daughter  Madelyn was born on October 23, 2002.  The first year of Madelyn's life was filled with all of the normal milestones.... first smile, first giggle, babbling, crawling, cruising...

What a beautiful angel entered into our lives.  We were so blessed. 

Then the changes started.  First it was such subtle changes that we didn't know for sure if there was something wrong.  

Eventually we could not ignore the skills being lost.  She lost the ability to walk, talk, and to use her hands.  By the age of 2 she was no longer able to feed herself or use her hands to play  and she had no words, not even "Mommy",  "Daddy" or "Brother".   She was only able to move about by walking on her knees.  There was no doubt that "something" was wrong.

We received Madelyn's diagnosis on February 15, 2005, Madelyn was 2 years old.  Madelyn had RETT Syndrome. (RettSyndrome.org)

Rett Syndrome has taken away Madelyn's ability to communicate with spoken words.  The only way we can communicate with Madelyn is with her "eyes".  We can give her choices and by looking at the item of her choice she can "choose" what she wants.  This a very "low-tech" and laborious way to communicate and is not very efficient.  However, thanks to the people at Tobii ATI there is hope.

We are at the point that we are ready to purchase for Madelyn an eye gaze device that will allow her to navigate a computer to communicate her wishes and thoughts.  We need your help.
