Ten Commandments' new home

Tax deductible

A series of lawsuits in Federal Court recently resulted in the removal of a monument of the Ten Commandments from Valley High School in New Kensington, Pa. In March of this year, the public school district removed the monument, which was erected 50 years ago, because of the costs of fighting lawsuits that claimed the monument was strictly a religious symbol and was offensive.

The monument will have a new home at Mary Queen of Apostles (MQA) School, a Catholic school of the Diocese of Greensburg. MQA will place the monument on its Greenwald campus, which sits on one of the busiest roads in the community. MQA purchased the Greenwald building from the New Kensington Arnold School District last summer and was in the process of designing a new sign for the school when the monument lawsuit was settled.

Putting our original plans on hold, we want to incorporate the community’s noble, historic monument into a new design in a way that showcases the Ten Commandments and makes a visible statement of the values we teach and live at MQA and in our community. To do this well will be costly.  A professional team will help to create a concept for the monument and sign, which will need to be designed, erected, lit and landscaped.

The ability to pass on to the next generation the basic ethical and moral principles that we inherited is important to us. We ask you to support our efforts to proclaim that the Ten Commandments are an inspiration to live by and are not offensive in our community.

Any additional funds that we receive over our goal will be welcome and helpful and will be used to help replace the school’s roof.

We are hoping to raise $25,000. For more information, contact Bill Staniszewski at [phone redacted] or [email redacted].
