Through the exposition of Yoga I'm living my dream to be of Service to Humanity. My first global effort is aligning my breath and movement towards aiding in the advancement of education, free yoga, and child care all of the offerings the Africa Yoga Project gifts the people of Nairobi, Kenya. For me, as an African American in the United States of America, this is a first step of many more into honoring my Ancestors and showing my community that we can heal from the inside out. ...for quite some time, i have had a longing to go to africa, but never made any plans to go, never thought about how i would get there... similarly, even while devoting my life to a personal yoga practice for 19 years now, i had never thought that i would ever become a yoga teacher... suddenly, this is my life, this is who i am, and it is in teaching yoga, i.e.-- sharing what i love in life more than anything-- that brings me the most joy... so, when i was confronted with the possibility of journeying to africa, with my teacher, in the effort to serve others in kenya, it all made a perfect sense to me-- one that has nothing to do with logic, but, rather, has to do with passion, with devotion, and with love...it is in my heart to take this trip-- to teach yoga to people all over the world, to share what i love so dearly, to serve others in a profound way, and, of course, to keep learning... if you can do anything to support this dream of mine, please do, and know that what your supporting is really a mission-- a mission of love...thank you... with peace and positive energy, * vr

The journey to Kenya is expensive, yet the token of love and encouragement each donation provides will empower approximately 6,000 people a week through experiences which have inspired statements like,

"The slums are empty and lacking potential, but by bringing in yoga we have brought in new possibilities for everyone...Doing yoga together in the community gives me motivation. When we do yoga together I cannot give up! When I'm on my mat I feel connected to the fresh air, the world, and my community." -Irene Auma, an AYP Teacher

Here is how your gracious contribution will help:

$75 will provide a yoga class and lunch for women in prison.

$125 provides a salary for an Africa Yoga Project Teacher; gifting an individual from within the Kenyan community with the means to care for other families through yoga and their own via your donation.

$1500 renovates an entire room at an AYP Outreach Location.


$24,000 will cover the $4,000 minimum commitment each Seva Team member must raise.

$48,000 (the grand total) will cover all team transportation from NYC to Nairobi, assist in the invaluable education of additional teachers, contribute to building more centers while providing food, employment and outreach, and broaden the horizons of the Africa Yoga Project through its commitment to selfless service.
