Western Herbalism Education

Donation protected
Hello family, friends, community!

I've been working hard this year to make my dream of becoming a Clinical Western Herbalist come true.  I'm nearing the end of my Intensive 2 year Apprenticeship program at Ohlone Herbal Center in Berkeley, CA.  I've been in San Francisco for 3 years and have cultivated a love of nature through cycling, hiking, and camping.  This love grew out of the experience of my parents taking me to our family cabin in Northern Minnesota since I was a just a little girl.  It is still my favorite place on earth.

Western Herbalism combines my love of medicine, helping people, being outdoors, and learning about plants.  In order for me to continue onto the Clinical portion of my education I need to raise $14,000.

Western Herbalism, much like Chinese Medicine and Ayurvedic medicine in India uses plants (herbs) to treat dis-eases of the body and mind.  Herbs are gentle in that they work symbiotically with the human body, but they are also very effective.  For example, during the Civil War chamomile was used to fight gangrine with it's strong antimicrobial properties.  We now think of chamomile as a gentle night-time tea, but when put to work these sweet herbs can be powerful.  I believe we can use this natural medicine in concert with modern medicine to truly be happy, healthy and whole human beings.

Your support will enable me to focus wholeheartedly on this coursework.  In addition to becoming a practicing herbalist, my intentions are to share this knowledge as broadly as possible.  I'm sharing plant and wellness knowledge through my social media channels, and soon I will start a blog where I will wholeheartedly share the most important things I'm learning.  I believe this knowledge of herbs and health belongs to everyone.  This will include information on medicinal plants local to your area, progressive nutrition information, and herbs for wellness.

With Love and Gratitude, Lani Hanson

Fennel Seeds: An abundant herb in the Bay Area. One of England's 9 sacred herbs, said to cure any and all illness.  I harvested these last weekend.

Wild Mustard: A bitter, and so stimulates healthy digestion, and good for your liver and gall bladder. Harvesting with my class here!

Wakame: Excellent source of minerals and other nutrients.  Seaweeds are very powerful natural medicine and have been extensively studied in being protective and curative for cancer.

Special gratitude goes to my family who have been so supportive throughout this journey of changing career paths.  My nephew, Jonathan, and his little being has become my personal inspiration to serve my community now, so that the next generation has the same opportunity for love, well being, and connection to the earth that we have.

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.
