Lafayette Boxing Club Fundraiser
The Lafayette Boxing Club is continually raising money to cover the costs of being a club, which is free to all of its members! These costs include: yearly registration with
USA Boxing ($250),equipment (gauze, gloves, jump ropes), expenses to go to
shows and tournaments (gas!). Now and in
the past, the club has relied on the generosity of Head Coach Terry Christian
as well as members of the community to keep club is free to its members. Any size donation can help!
The Lafayette Boxing Club was
formed from what used to be the Twin Cities Boxing Club, coached by the late,
great Sherman Depew. Terry Christian, coach of the Lafayette Boxing Club,
trained with DePew as a teenager. Christian has faithfully carried on DePew's
ideals as the coach of the Lafayette Boxing Club. Christian, who now trains
boxers at Terry Thomas gym, not only trains boxers in the ring, but also
stresses personal accountability. With limited resources, over the years the
club has trained out of Christian's backyard shed and his one-car garage and has been a powerhouse at the Indiana Golden Gloves year after year
-- winning THREE FIRST PLACE and TWO SECOND PLACE team trophies in the past
six years, despite sitting out one year!
