~ Support for Karin - ALS funds ~

Donation protected
As many of you know, Karin was diagnosed with ALS - Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis - also known as Lou Gehrig's disease or Motor Neuron Disease, last year. This devastating disease has left her unable to do any of the clay work and many other forms of art she loves and has done her entire life.

What is ALS?
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed.
The average life expectancy of an ALS patient averages about two to five years from the time of diagnosis.

Anything you can donate will be greatly appreciated by Karin and her family as this disease results in many hurdles that are forever changing as it progresses. The funds collected will help with medical expenses for needed medications, equipment, etc.
