The Kirkville Fire Company in Onondaga County, New York has created a GoFundMe fundraiser for a sorely needed All-Terrain Firefighting and Rescue Vehicle like the model pictured above.
This recent newsworthy 100-acre brush fire in our response area underscored the urgent need for having this vehicle on our front lines. It could have brought personnel and firefighting equipment directly to the seat of the fire within the first minutes of the alarm. In addition to firefighting readiness, with a top speed of 45 miles per hour this vehicle could respond directly from our fire station (without the need for towing and a trailer) and bring help, equipment, and transport capability to anyone suffering a medical emergency in any of the numerous remote areas we serve.
With a response area that includes Green Lakes State Park, the Erie Canal Multi-Purpose Trail and large wooded areas with difficult access, our current fleet of two-wheel drive vehicles is not ideally suited for all of the emergencies we have been and will continue to be called to. Over the years we have responded to fires, rescues and even a small airplane crash in remote areas including the canal path, trails, tree farms and woods where we needed to hike to the patient on foot, carrying equipment by hand. This vehicle would help us do our job more efficiently, quickly and safely. Please consider donating to this important cause.
