It is Time..... It's Goat Time!

Donation protected
Hello everyone,

I am going back to Mlolongo, Kenya on March 25.

Same as last year, I will be supporting the work of Living Positive Mlolongo (LPM), a community-based organization that strives to help people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS, as well as orphans and vulnerable children.

The purpose of this campaign is to raise funds for a new income generating project:  A Goat Farm!

The initial investment of $1,500 will cover start-up costs for 20 female and 8 male goats.

After the first breeding season, the young goats will be sold to local restaurants and individuals, and by continuing the breeding/selling cycle, the organization will be able to generate income that will help support its programs and operation.

The goat farm will be located in the same area where the organization is building the Boarding School & Rescue Center (Kiotani) for kids at risk. Take a look at the beautiful view:

But, would $1,500 make a great impact?

I strongly believe that, by investing in income generating projects in communities in need, our giving have greater impact in the long run.

It is not about donating to help feed one family today, it is about empowering organizations and local communities to be sustainable and drive social innovation and transformation in various fields including education, health, environment and enterprise development.

Please support this initiative and let's create a ripple effect that will change a community for generations to come.

Thank you all.

Teresita.

Additional Information:

Living Positive Mlolongo works in four major areas:

1. Education and Nutrition Center at Kicheko Slum.  More than 80 children (3-7 y/o) receive basic education and one meal a day (sometimes the only meal they get).

2. Women's Empowerment & Education Program.
Every year, approximately 50 women receive training in life, income generating and business skills. Many of them are being pulled from prostitution, a major issue in the area, and provided with an alternative source of income and better future for their families through social entrepreneurship.

3.  Sponsorship Program.
Many children from the slums around the area  are denied the right and privilege to education because of their constrained economic conditions. They often end up on the streets at age 11 or 12.  This program helps children find a sponsor that can support his/her education ($600 per year...yes... $600 per year only!)

4.  Kiotani Boarding School & Rescue Center.
This is a big dream becoming a reality.  In a beautiful land, donated by an European foundation, LPM is building a boarding school and rescue center for orphans and kids at risk. The goal is to make this a self-sufficient school.

As you can imagine there is so much to do. Those who supported and followed my first campaign know that every penny will be very well invested.

A few words from the Mary, the Executive Director:

"... When being an HIV positive translates to deprivation,
denial, and disgrace, we prefer to see things from the
other side. Our team might be small but we are dedicated to help making the lives of HIV positive women and their children in our community a positive experience in its own right. And we believe that you could be a part of this benign endeavor, giving the support that these people need to carry on with their positive lives..."
