Tanya Giles Medical Expenses

As many of you know, my mother is very sick. For her privacy I will not go into the details of her illness, but the prognosis for people with the same diagnosis is 2 years. My Mother currently weighs less than 100 pounds, she can not walk and she is suffering from dementia. She has been in the hospital for nearly two months and depending on if medicaid will cover the cost, she will be transferred to a physical rehab/ nursing facility where she is likely to live...indefinitely

My dear Mother has worked so hard her entire life to provide for myself and my baby brother Brandon (15)! My family is very small.  Its me, my mom, my brother, my grandmother, aunt Trish , uncle Baba & cousin Kayli.  My mom single handedly put us both through school, made sure we had clothes on our backs, food in our bellies and a proper education. My Mom taught me to appreciate what I had. There were times when things got really tough, but my Mom never gave up and kept pushing and kept working to make sure that her babies were happy & healthy! My Mom sacrificed her entire life for us.

When my mom first started to get sick, she refused to stop working, because she is the main source of income in the household. But she is now completely bedridden and there is no chance of her ever returning to work. My Grandmother also lives with my mother, and she gets some help from the government, but not nearly enough to maintain their house.  My little brother has been placed in a Home for Boys because my mom is so sick she was no longer able to care for him. My little brother is in a great place, he is very happy and I am confident that he is being treated well and that they are taking great care of him.

The reason I am starting this campaign is because now that my mom is no longer able to work. I have to take over her duties as head of the family, and with that comes many responsibilities that I was not prepared for. My mom had no savings, and right now the only income is coming from me (in atlanta) and my grandmothers social security.

First off, I would like to ensure that my mother gets placed in a nice facility that is close to my grandmother. SInce my mother is no longer working her insurance is going to run out soon and she will be placed on medicaid. Medicad does not always provide the best options for care. I want to make her comfortable and happy in the little time we have left.  I also would like to know that when the time comes, I am able to send her to paradise the way she deserves.

Second, after much pleading and begging with  my grandmother she will not move out of the house my mom and her shared to live with me in Atlanta, and I can't force her to do something that will make her unhappy.  (Moving to Florida is not an option, because I would not be offered the same job opportunities and therefore not be able to provide care for my family!) With that said, I have another set of rent and bills to pay to make sure that my grandmother is safe & has all her necessities. We have been blessed that the church sends her over boxes of food quite often so she does not ever go hungry!

Third, I would like to be able to start a savings account for my little brother. So that he has somewhere to start when he turns 18.

This has been the hardest few months of my life, but through this I have finally realized my true purpose in life. That purpose is to take care of my family, provide for my mom and grandmother like they did for me and to make sure that my little brother has a bright future!
