Teach for America Trip to Louisiana
My name is Joel Kutz, and this Spring Break I will be traveling to Donaldsonville, Louisiana on a service trip, organized through the education-reform group Teach for America. It's an opportunity to serve a local high school, immerse myself in an underprivileged community, and learn about the needs of a group different than my own.
And therefore, with the goal of growing into a more responsible person, I ask for your support.
The Alternative Spring Break (ASB) program at USC is set up to immerse students in a service-learning environment, taking Spring Break, a time typically used for relaxation, and turning it into a testing and meaningful experience. We meet as a team for months leading up to the trip, focusing our efforts and deciding how we can do the most good in a short amount of time.
I have person goals for the trip as well. Living in a big, modern city, I need to work to make sure I maintain my grounding. I want to continue challenging myself to think in a new way, and to always hold what's important at heart.
No matter who you are, I look forward to sharing what I learn and experience. If you're in a place where you need all your money for basic living expenses, I ask that you turn away and don't send anything towards me.
But if you do have any money to give, I hope you'll consider a small donation, of any size, to help cover the expenses of the trip. I will do my part to learn as much as I can, and to hopefully make a difference to someone, in a small way.
Thanks for reading.
Joel
