Merry Christmas Jennifer

Join us in surprising someone in need this holiday season!

Jennifer Yager was hit in Austin, Texas on Sun. Dec. 9, 2012.  A driver going in excess of 80 miles an hour on Parmer Lane struck her and her friend from behind to avoid a pizza box in the road. She miraculously survived 8 broken ribs, shattered pelvis, broken clavicle, 7 broken leg bones, fractured neck vertebrae, a brain injury and a destroyed neck artery, necessitating surgery and long-term rehabilitation. Jennifer has limited health insurance and lives on less than $100 a week for groceries, utilities, her prepaid cell phone, and every other miscellaneous expenditure. To help with food, the non-profit Keep Austin Fed has been providing Jennifer with surplus food donated from restaurants and other commercial kitchens.

Recently, Jenn’s car engine exploded which has left her without transportation. She was housebound for 8 days as she was unable to make the walk from her home to the closest bus station. She is desperately searching for a job that can accommodate her inability to sit or stand for long periods of time due to nerve damage that came as a result of multiple hip and foot surgeries required due to injuries sustained in the crash.

As a co-founder of Please BE KIND to Cyclists (Please BE KIND), a non-profit in Austin, I was immediately hurt by the news of Jennifer’s crash and visited her at the hospital to see what assistance we could provide. Surprisingly, it was Jennifer who helped us. After regaining her ability to walk, Jenn became one of the most dedicated volunteers for Please BE KIND. She has attended countless events and fundraisers and has managed to stop by our office weekly to help with inventory and fulfilling membership subscriptions. She is the first person to ask what help the organization needs and is always willing to provide her time, hard work and dedication.

Please know that any help you are able to provide is welcomed. Jennifer does not know that Please BE KIND is asking for your help on her behalf. Jennifer has never asked for any monetary assistance, no matter what challenge life has presented her with. Donations, job opportunities, information, anything can help make a difference. Let us come together as a community and help Jennifer keep happy and healthy for the holidays.
