In November 2013 - Janie (my sweet wife) and I decided to volunteer our time in the Republic of Vanuatu, working with the United Pentecostal Church International of Vanuatu.
Our job here has been wide and varied. Janie and I both teach in our local Bible College, and I am also the administrator for the Bible College, which involves paying the bills, setting up and printing all the material each term, setting rosters for staff and students, being responsible for property maintenance, ensuring that all the staff wages gets paid, keeping the lights on, the taps running, and the teachers doing roll call. 5 days of the week.
I also minister in the local church a couple of times each month, and Janie and I teach a youth class each Sunday called FreedomYouth. Plus, we run a youth program each Friday night, which is getting bigger every Friday!
I also look after the our church OpenDoor program, co-ordinating the leaders, preparing and setting up teachers note, and student books, for all 7 of our OpenDoor classes that happen on Wednesday night. Plus - I teach one of them as well.
In my spare time, I clean up the rubbish in the front gutter, teach the gardener how NOT to repair a lawnmower, chase dogs off the front porch, build fences, scrape dead rats off the porch, kill centipedes for Janie, design videos for our FreedomYouth, drink coffee, dodge potholes while driving, plus many other varied, yet equally crazy but fun things.
All of this is volunteer. And we do it, because we love it! It's a crazy life, but you only have one life to live (or give) and for us, being able to make a difference, in the life of just one person, makes it all worth while.
And you can help us be a part of that difference. Because without you - we can't be here. Without you, the lights go out, the doors get shut. In 2015 - we need $20,000 to keep all these activities going. Only $20,000 for an entire year! You can help us, by helping cover our expenses.
