Hello….My name is Jan Bartelstone.
Thank you for taking the time to read about my call for help. My friend is helping me send this message to you because last year I was diagnosed with non-arteric ischemic optic neuropathy, which has left me significantly vision impaired. I am considered to be legally blind, and now the day-to-day tasks for living life requires me to have assistance.
I’ve dedicated the last 30 years of my life to photography, as I am a lover of nature and the great outdoors. I have always felt drawn to illuminate the extraordinary landscapes, the inner and outer realms that reflect the truth of who we are. I was out hiking, starting the filming of my second documentary, when I began to experience a painless loss of vision.
Many doctors have told me there is nothing they can do for my condition, but through extensive research I have found a patient funded clinical trial which I am eligible for. The Stem Cell Ophthalmology Treatment Study (SCOTS) trial is for 'eyes with loss of vision from retinal or optic nerve conditions generally considered irreversible and to be treated with a combination of injections of autologous bone marrow derived stem cells.'
As you can imagine, I’ve tried a multitude of remedies and treatments with no success. This surgical procedure is the only treatment showing promise that could allow me to work again and see the things I love. I have done extensive research on this treatment and the doctors involved, and find them to be highly experienced and credible.
Along with your help, pursuing the path of beauty with my photography and filmmaking, gives me hope.
