Please read, for them, not me. First, know that I am not asking for $$ to fund my hobby, my habit, but a chance to give some of the amazing kids and families I meet that are in trying circumstances, a token of inspiration and imagination, a symbol of their strength, and a reminder of how special they are to so many.
I am a veteran of the USMC diagnosed with PTSD. I spend my time putting art and ideas, some crazy, some reality, into shape through the action figure and collecitbles forum. Funko POPs, TMNT, action figures, you name it. Making the figures is therapeutic for me, but the people and personalities I get to meet have been equally beneficial.
A terminally ill boy immortalized with his likeness as Iron Man, a child with leukemia wanting to be one of Marvel's Avengers, a family wanting to show their 5 yr old girl mauled and scarred by a dog that she is still their beautiful super hero, a figure for a boy losing his veteran father to the battle with PTSD, or a symbol of strength to a couple who sadly lost their infant son, fighting against the odds; all of these I have been asked to make.
The families and individuals that reach out to me for the situations and reasons like those aformentioned have offered to pay, and do not come looking for handouts. I just personally feel that they are trying in every way already, and if collectively as a community of fans of this kind of "work" can help them out, we should.
