The Gragg Getaway for Holly & Megan

So here's the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth!  On Friday, June 26th, moments after the announcement that the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide, I posted on Facebook the following - "Well I'm getting married today before they change their mind!”  But that's not how this social media love affair began, or ends.

Megan and I met on Instagram in December 2012.   The star-crossed digital love affair began with a click of a hashtag, #LGBTShoutouts.  Her tiny features immediately caught my attention, and I verbally assaulted Gragg for weeks on end.  I guess that Southern charm worked.

I called the "little person" on New Year’s Eve and the long distance whirlwind began.  Work sent me to Megan's hometown of Atlanta for a three-week training boot camp.  The time must have been well spent, because after that, ATL packed her bag and moved to Memphis.  And I’m serious, “bag” isn’t a typo.  She had a bag and a TV.

Fast-forward to November 2014 - we bought our first home in... you guessed it, Midtown.  With keys in hand, Megan proposed to me on the dining room floor before any furniture had been delivered.  Florida, New York, and Vegas.  Just a few places that we have considered driving to make it official.  We’ve been plotting and scheming for months.

June 26th 2015 – I went to work like any other Friday.  Megan sent me a text message that same-sex marriage is now legal in all 50 states.    I didn’t believe a word she said and got back to work.  After some research, I posted “Well I’m getting married before they change their mind” to my FB wall, and the joke got all too real.  My fabulous boss sent me an email, demanding to leave early and get married!  I was in my favorite torn-up jeans and Megan wore her Planet Fitness t-shirt.  We headed to 150 Washington Avenue.  It was very unplanned, and uncertain if we would be able to get a marriage license that day.   There were a few other couples also applying, as well as a few reporters and media.

With a marriage license in hand, we married in front of 100 of our closest strangers on the steps of the Memphis Gay and Lesbian Community Center.  It wasn’t a white wedding.  It wasn’t days, hours, weeks or months of planning.  There wasn’t even a cake or rings.  We used the candy heart rings we made on Valentine's Day to seal the deal.  But it was perfect and even more perfect to share it with my friends and family after-the-fact.  June 26th was and always will be a special day.

So, this brings us to GoFundMe!  Since there was no wedding, reception, rehearsal dinner, engagement party….I’ve had a lot of people ask me what we want as a gift.  And it’s very simple, much like our wedding.  We want a trip of a lifetime.  So, for those of you who want to give a gift, big or small…this is our wish.  I was afraid to make the post, but I guess it’s worth the shot.  As much as I love a Walgreens gift card, I’d rather have a Pina Colada on the sandy white beaches of Punta Cana or a Weissbier in Germany.

If you wish, help us make this dream trip a reality!  At the very least, thank you for reading "our story".

"That’s our little story….now we gotta figure out the rest."
