MTU Rowing needs a Coach Boat

MTU Rowing is a club sport at Michigan Technological University under Terry Smythe since 1997.  We all work very hard to learn to row and share our passion of rowing with any other student who wants to learn to row at Tech. We never turn anyone away who is willing to get up at 5 am and workout with us. As a club we travel to regattas around the Midwest competing against other college teams in men’s and women’s races.

However, this past season we have had to retire a Coach Boat our club purchased used at the start of the club because it is deemed unsafe. The importance of a coach boat out on the water with the other rowing vessels is essential to the safety of every rower we have on our team. As safety is our priority above all else, we need to replace this boat before next season or we will be unable to practice on the water.

In addition to the coach boat our team is in need of new rowing shells. The shells we have now are old an inadequate to have us preform at our best at our regattas. Without a boathouse our boats are very open to the elements and therefore get a lot of wear and tear on them.  Our club team is looking to purchase used boats to replace our very damaged 8+ and 4+ boats. We are a hardworking crew trying to raise money as best we can on our own, but look to the community and others for aid.
