Help The Huizar Family

Donation protected
Hello everyone! My name is Bennie Pinkston and I am the daughter of Osbaldo Huizar. We live together along with my sister, Gracie. A few friends recommended we try this site so we could get some much-needed help.

We have fallen behind on our utilities, my father's funeral insurance and other bills. We're in the negative with our bank account from trying to catch up. All of us are disabled and living on a fixed income. Our 85-year-old father has become very ill and bedridden in the last year, leaving us to take drastic measures in providing a comfortable home and environment for him. As I write this, he has been in the hospital for a week.

Our story begins Christmas 2012. Our father has suffered several strokes and has not been quite himself or walked on his own since. At the beginning of January 2013, he became dehydrated and came down with pneumonia. He was in the hospital for about a week. A doctor diagnosed him with stroke-induced dementia. The hospital decided to send him to a rehabilitation center for four weeks. They started him on Namenda and Aricept, but he had a very bad reaction to them, developing a rash, HBP and a bad cough. He also started hallucinating, becoming paranoid, combative and very loud and mean "“ to the nursing staff and us. For people who know my father, they know him as a very quiet, sweet man. He always went to church, where he served as an usher for many years. Missing family gatherings rather than not perform his duties as a church usher. His failing health became a very serious concern while living in the home we've lived in all our lives. The house had fallen in disrepair and really, had not been built correctly to begin with. There was mold in several areas of the house that had developed leaks, no hot water, and the bricks were beginning to break off. There is not a shred of insulation in the house, so when it was cold, we were cold. The wiring was all jumbled up and overloading causing several outlets to not work or even lights to turn on. My father was in need of a hospital bed. His room had no power. We had to run extension cords from his room to the bathroom. If it was hot, we couldn't plug in his air conditioner. If it was cold, we would leave our oven on for most of the night to heat up the house, which was dangerous.
We decided that it was in my father's best interest to look for another place to live. We could never find a place close to town at a reasonable price. We were willing to cram ourselves into a 1 or 2-bedroom house/apartment; everything was either too expensive or already taken. Luckily we found a house that we could just afford with a landlord who was willing to work with us. Due to this move, though, we've fallen behind because of the extra costs of deposits, having to take out small loans, and medication/equipment that isn't covered by insurance.

There has been several times where we were afraid he wouldn't make it. Since we pull all our income together, if we lost him anytime soon we would be homeless. Sad to say, but it's true. If we were to catch up with the bills and his funeral plan, we'd be able to make it with just my and my sister's income. This is really important right now because he needs 24 hour care. Doctors and nurses are suggesting that we place him in a nursing home within the next few weeks because we are disabled and unable to give him the amount of care he needs. We have never asked for anything but a bit of a break. We have been able to fight through any situation we were put in: until now.

Any donation is greatly, greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, we completely understand and thank you for reading this. Please share it if you can to spread the word and help us help our father and get back on our feet.

Thank you,
Bennie P.
