Horses for Healing is a nonprofit therapeutic riding center for kids with special needs in Northwest Arkansas. Since it’s opening in 1991, thousands of children in need have walked through their barn doors hoping for help in meeting the overwhelming challenges they face everyday. Many of these children don’t qualify for government aid. With the expenses associated in raising a child with special needs, many families are unable to afford private therapy. At HFH, the primary focus is for no child to be left behind, and their goal is to help every child who participates in the program meet their full potential no matter how limited that may be.
There is a huge waiting list due to a lack of resources, which is why we are creating this campaign. This money will go towards therapy session for even more kids!
Horses for Healing receives no government money. Participants receive scholarships with only 9% paying a token fee and the rest paying nothing at all. It is only with the help of the community that HFH is able to provide these effective therapeutic services.
The 4D movement of the horse facilitates all the neuromuscular systems that support human functions. There is not another therapeutic intervention that can replace this input from horse to rider. With the trained instructors, volunteers, and horses, children with special needs receiving services at HFH get healthier faster.
The advances children make at HFH are profound – children diagnosed as non-verbal start talking for the first time while in the saddle; children of advanced age who lacked strength and balance take their first steps after riding for only a few weeks; children with autism allow important new sensory input for the first time because of their experience. Yet perhaps the most important first often witnessed and recently verbalized by a father watching his 8 year old son ride is: “I have never seen him so happy!”
