Democracy hangs by a thread. This project enlists satire and wit to offset a growing imbalance of conservative control over progressive policies, institutions and civil liberties.

"Help Newbie Save Democracy"—the campaign offers one solution to our political predicament and suggests more inside the pages of a humorous book. The key is to promote progressive ideas over archaic notions through affable and entertaining fictional characters—like Newbie.

"Breaking Truth" – The Book with a Mission

Newbie is the fresh face among a gaggle of elite Washington journalists. With his unique perspective and their mentoring and support, much is revealed about the failures of American media and the larger struggle to cover an unconventional president backed by extremist factions.

The manuscript is filled with logic, purpose and innovative ideas, plus comedic take-downs of worn-out canards and warmed-over conspiracies. The unavoidable outcome is a choice between celebrating the advanced products of diversity and equality or retreating to a caveman mentality.

"Breaking Truth" – The Little Book That Could Save Democracy 

What happens when the White House correspondents of a similar, parallel universe investigate the controls of power and discover the tools are all hammers ... and reporters are the nails? Maximum political satire.

Laugh and cry as Newbie, Siri, and media friends struggle to coax truth from a president who loves lying more than anything in life except money, celebrity and golf.  

Washington becomes even swampier when the gaggle encounters a cadre of corrupt politicians and wingnuts. The sycophantic minions help the leader of the free world break everything in sight—norms, principles, institutions, laws, justice, alliances ... football ... the fabric of time and space. What’s next, a military parade rumbling down Pennsylvania Avenue with live ammo? Well, yes. What could go wrong?

Truth is broken in a world where reality is no longer reality and facts are for losers. When the president has a rare honest moment, it’s not just breaking news—it’s "Breaking Truth!" A feel-good book that will make you furious!

Project Goals

The "Help Newbie Save Democracy" campaign is centered around "Breaking Truth," a recently self-published paperback and ebook.

Phase One Goals

Product Placement — establish marketplace distribution through Amazon and other popular booksellers
Direct Marketing (Local) — distribute 500 copies to progressive and liberal organizations and individuals (via Houston network)
Direct Marketing (National) — distribute 500 copies to progressive and liberal organizations, legislators and individuals (via USPS; national supporters)
Support Materials — develop posters, flyers and postcards to augment marketing efforts
Advertising — research and test online advertising to identify effective and sustainable options
Awareness — build a sustainable social media network to encourage:
--   Shares, links, likes, retweets, etc.
--   Book reviews
--   A celebrity reviewer would be extremely helpful
Sales & Publishing — build up the sales volume of "Breaking Truth" to a point where the author can attract a publishing contract for additional progressive works. Draper’s writing credits include:
--  Books: "Generation Justice," "Who Iced Santa," and "After the Ice Melts"
--  Screenplays: "Blue Devil Springs," "Martianity," "Minority View," "Wet Kiss," and "Recharge" 
--  Notes: "After the Ice Melts" is due out in November; "Who Iced Santa" originally was scripted for a 23-minute animated film; and film director Tom Huckabee has signed on to direct "Recharge," a feature length film (the project is in pre-production).

Phase Two Goals (requires additional funding)

Additional Distribution — expand scalable Phase One marketing efforts as funds allow
Website eCommerce — develop an online retail channel at both 77006.com and EarthMart.com (via WordPress & the Woo Commerce plugin)
Website Technical Resources — identify and procure technical resources to upgrade and maintain both 77006.com and EarthMart.com websites
Progressive Publishing & Development — additional innovative projects are in various stages of development.   

Phase Three Goals (requires additional funding)

Progressive Brands — design and develop or nurture online social and eCommerce concepts for the general public but especially for progressive interests
Progressive Resources —  
-- Artists have committed art, time and resources for branding and development opportunities, for example: PinkArt.com; Artseum.com; Creatology.com and TotalZombie.com.
-- Concepts are typically anchored by premium dot-com domains owned by Draper. Projects that support progressive interests include Ameritopia.com; BiasWatch.com; ProtestIt.com; OppoBits.com; VoteToProtect.com; RightsNow.com; DotComism.com; MoreVoices.org; Terrif.com; FabuYou.com, MomAndPopShops.com; and BurntToast.com, etc.

Project Status

At startup, the book is complete, edited and published as a paperback and ebook on Amazon. Three hundred books are on order. Distribution through other booksellers is planned and a high priority task. Marketing materials are being developed. The Plan

Local Distribution — distribution began in Houston at project startup; companion marketing materials will be distributed as they become available.
National Distribution List — the public addresses of progressive organizations and individuals will be maintained in a project contact database.  
National Distribution — national distribution will commence within 30 days, following partial development of the national distribution list and commitment of labor and volunteers.
Advertising — marketing and advertising campaign planning is a high priority; a marketing resource has been identified as well as a graphic designer.
Human Resources — Volunteers are appreciated; technical resources are needed; marketing, creative and distribution labor are pending project funding.
Website Update — http://www.77006.com site improvements are pending labor, funding and time.
Social Media Development — a daily effort is underway to expand and improve social media outlets; volunteers are needed; a technical resource is pending project funding.
Phase Two & Three Planning — additional project elements have been identified but the current focus is on Phase One tasks.

The Author

About the Author – Edward Draper is a writer-producer-creator as well as a veteran Washington analyst with a love for art, science, history, social justice and discovery of the unknown. All are elements that blend nicely into methodically-plotted creative works, possibly best described as modern-day rationalized fantasies. 

Environmental Comedy – Draper authored "After the Ice Melts," to shift the legendary story of Christmas to a new paradigm with a simple message. Climate change and dislocation are real and Santa Claus is the world’s best-known victim. In the book, a fun cast of characters, including Soggy Elf and a talking dog, circle the globe to find Santa and save Christmas Village—and maybe humanity. It’s hilarious!

Thinking ahead, my dream—beyond saving democracy—is for campaign fundraising to exceed expectations by a magnitude so large that it attracts national attention.
