A Summer Away From Graduation

UPDATE: I graduated!  Please check your emails for an update from me.  Thank you all so much for your generous donations!  I would not be where I am right now without your kindness and encouragement.

Hi World,

My name is Lanica Angpak and I am a student at Temple University. I transferred to Temple in the Fall of 2013 and since then have maintained a 3.71 GPA and full-time status as a student. This Spring semester I was nominated and awarded the Othella R. Vuaghn Award by the College of Liberal Arts at Temple. In the short time that I have been at Temple I have never felt more at home. As at-home as I feel, I also feel like it's my time to leave the nest.

Since transferring to Temple as a full-time student, I have also been juggling three part-time jobs. I work at three different nonprofit organizations located in both North and South Philadelphia. My dream is to continue into a career path down nonprofit and advocacy, to provide extraordinary and efficient services to neglected communities and youths, to encourage the growth of racial and ethnic unity, and to advocate for the rights of young students in public education. I have been working in nonprofits for about 4 years now and have volunteered and been part of community groups since middle school. This is where my passions are and this is where my brain and heart have led me (sorry for not being a medical doctor, Mom!).

I am asking you to help me raise money for my summer tuition at Temple University for both Summer I and Summer II 2014. I will be taking three courses this summer in order to lighten my workload in the semester of Fall 2014. I am taking these classes in the summer because it is, in the long run, less costly than splitting my classes between Fall and Spring semesters during the next school year. With three classes in the Summer and four completed in the Fall, I will be able to graduate in December of 2014!

Please help make me reach my goal of graduating college not up to my eyeballs in student loan debt. Any and all help is appreciated ten-fold and beyond. Donations of certain amounts will receive different kinds of thank-you's from me through the mail (or in person if you live in Philadelphia)!

A little bit about me:
My name is Lanica and most people call me "Lanica" (although professors like to pronounce it "la-knee-kah"). I am 21 years old and am the proud cat-mama of Lulu-Topanga and Billy Jean. I LOVE to try new foods, watch Disney movies, and read about advocacy work being done by other POC/WOC around the world. I have been learning Cambodian Classical Dance for more than 15 years and have been teaching for about 4 years. In high school I was awarded "best hair" and got on student council with the slogan: "I got that boom-boom-pow." My facial expressions react faster than my brain and I own a ridiculous amount of lipsticks. I am an aspiring nonprofit leader and sociologist and hope that one day a little kid will look at me and say: "You're old but cool."

Thank you for all of the support and encouragement past, present, and future.  I would not be where and who I am without all of you!

(PS-- all of the reward levels are named after my, my cousin's, and my sister's cats (in case you were wondering))
