Help Nimeria Walk Again!!!

Donation protected
This is our friend Nimeria... Killer Nimeria named after one of the Dire Wolves from Game of Thrones. We found her near a storm drain near our home during the hot month of July in the hottest city in the U.S., Phoenix. That is where we live. And we happily share our home with our pets... All 7, in fact. And they all chose us to watch over them as they trust that we will not throw them out into the merciless desert (that has its own version of wolf - the coyote) that prays on these smaller dogs. Our 4 cats and 3 dogs trust that we will love them forever. -And that's just what we intend to keep on doing.

As soon as we got Nimeria in July, we had to take her to her first trip to the dog beach in San Diego with her older sister, Sochi (pictured further below). She had a blast during, what we can only assume, was her first puppy-vacation, EVER. Sochi loves and watches after Nimeria making sure she doesn't get into trouble as she loves to jump and sit right next to humans while the other dogs go play. She people watches and makes sure she knows where her humans are at all times.

I don't know what life Nimeria had before we got her, but I know she is happy to be inside a home where we give her love and her own bed - and treats! Just this morning 8/15, Nimeria woke with the rest of the dogs around 5 a.m. to get ready for her daily morning walk.  She started to stumble and actually had to start to sit down which we never seen before in mid-walk. We knew something was wrong.

A couple of hours later we checked on her again and she could barely sit up. I picked her up out of her bed to put the leash on to try and go for another walk and her legs just flailed to the side.  Her legs were as floopy as a fish's tail and I suddenly become terrified. I rushed her to the vet and the doctor confirmed my worst fear...Nimeria suddenly become paralyzed from the waist down. The doctor pinched her with a pair of surgical pliers (lightly) and she didn't whine or notice.  I couldn't help but start crying and feel like a negligent owner. -How could I have not noticed?

(BELOW is a picture of Nimeria coming home from the vet today - opiate (strong Tramadol pills) and other heavy drugs are at least keeping her comfortable. Sochi - in the background resting in the crate - wants to play with her sister!)

The doctor went on the explain that dogs get get bulging or slipped discs in their spine just like humans - it can be caused by excessive jumping, running and I remember seeing her roaming the street and squeezing through fences before we could finally feed her. I thought through the scenarios and realized that maybe through all her escapes from the heat and the wildlife (as we live near a riverbed) she might have shorten her lifespan. But we want to help her, but we are super-low on funds!

(BELOW is a picture of the medication -Just spent nearly $200 to make Nimeria temporarily feel better - It knocks her out!!!)

We have a Care Credit account, but have used it on getting our 6 other animals fixed, vaccinated and into the vet for regular check-ups. So we are maxed-out with bills put on the card. -I also recently left my day job because of being bullyed by a terrible boss and decided to work from home, which has helped me take care of our animals better (take them for more walks) and we keep each other happy and healthy. -But this has also come at a cost as I have a huge reduction in pay.

The doc has estimated the surgery to be $9,000 with a %75 chance of a full recovery. Without it, she may have a 10% chance to walk again, but it will most likely be years of lying on her side and us proping her up to use the bathroom and carrying her in a sling for dogs so she can hang out with the other two dogs. But this is no way for Nimeria to live! Please, please help us get Nimeria back on her feet again!

Nimeria is a dog who loves to jump and play at the beach and walk by her human's side. She has finally found her permanent home and she chose us to take care of her. -Please help us do just that!

The doctor says the sooner she gets the surgery, the better the results will be with her chances to walk again!!!
