I'd like to introduce you to 'Heavy Horse Heaven'.

The love and respect for 'Heavy Horses' is what brings us here today. My name is Tracey Angel & I happen to be an adoring supporter and friend of Heavy Horse Heaven (HHH) and so launched this campagn to help secure the future of HHH and the incredible people who contribute tirelessly to the daily operations in rescuing, caring for & the rehoming of these beautiful horses.

Situated in the pretty country town of Yass near the border of NSW & ACT Australia.
Heavy Horse Heaven (HHH) is a horse rescue and rehabilitation organization dedicated to the care of abandoned, mistreated or surrendered draught and draught-cross breeds. The charity is located near Murrumbateman, forty kilometers north of Canberra, on a 120 acre rented property.

HHH rescued its first horse, an emaciated Clydesdale mare, in September 2011. Since then HHH has rescued 38 horses and rehabilitated and re homed 18 with 13 currently in care. The Clydesdale, Shires and other heavy breed horses, which helped build Australia, need specialized and experienced care and rehabilitation with the appropriate veterinary and remedial care required to provide the best outcome for the horse.
With a growing support base and an ever-increasing following on the internet and social media, HHH remains dedicated to its goal of ‘rescue the right way’.
Whilst the past 3 yrs has seen many lovers of horses and animals alike donating to HHH's work. HHH and its followers have a wish list that can no longer be denied.
These majestic horses and the work that HHH offers are too valuable for HHH to not put themselves on this platform in the quest of a permanent home, a transport truck and portable yards.  HHH currently have a two horse, straight load horse float , however, it is only large enough for one large horse at a time and even then can be a very tight fit. A truck would enable HHH to safely and easily move multiple horses which is often the case in our work and provide relocation services during emergencies. HHH previously held an MOU with the DPI during the Sydney bushfires of 2013.

The wishlist for HHH includes : A goal of $50,000 for the purchase of the truck and one year’s on road costs.
Portable yards of which panels can be used to contain a horse during veterinary treatment and for our ‘mascot’ horses during public events. We have set a fundraising goal of $15000 for the purchase of an adequate number of panels. As HHH operates from a rented premises, entirely funded by HHH president. The construction of permanent stables is not practical therefore the purchase of portable stables would allow better protection for the more vulnerable horses during Canberra’s more extreme weather conditions.
A goal of $25,000 for the purchase of four stables, plus delivery and erection on site.
Although our current property does have perimeter fencing we frequently need to isolate particular horses for medical and behavioral reasons. We need safe & versatile electric fencing which will also allow us to set up temporary, rotational grazing areas. We have set a fundraising goal of $15,000 for the purchase of essential equipments, relying on donated labour to position and erect them. The majority of the horses brought into HHH care are in poor health and consequently we incur significant veterinary expenses. All horses require ongoing preventative and maintenance medications and vaccines. Securing a permanent home would also allow the consistent vetinary costs to be borne more easily to HHH as they would rely solely on donations to cover these costs.
Finally HHH 'wishes' to be able to purchase a permanant residence whereby the organization can operate well into the future secure in its ability rescue and nurture and rehome these magnificent horses who without their contribution to our nation and society would have been made insuferable to many thousands of people's who settled onto our land. Not having a permanent property own by HHH for their namesake, is a constant worry whilst gratitude is paramount for what we have, there is the never ending question mark of how long and where do we go from here. HHH having their own 'forever' property would alleviate that question mark for good and ensure that the horses that reside with HHH no matter the length of their stay will not have to be moved or stressed in that way again.

Australian history is lined with the devoted work that has come off the backs of these horses.  Did you know that 'many' of our Australian Diggers and other soldiers prior to when vehicles came into Australia, rode & were carried both to sign up and worked on and with these majestic horses? In fact the only Australian Victorian Cross recipiant Albert Chalmers Borella VC, MM (7 August 1881 – 7 February 1968) walked over 1000 kilometers to enlist in WW1 and in doing so rode on the backs of some of these horses including a horse drawn wagon as there was no other way to travel inland aside from walking in those days. Those horses carried him and many other soldiers and many were on the front line carrying our soldiers in the midst of battle.  Those horses along side our diggers and soldiers in both WW1 & WW2 lost their lives so that we may live a free country. We who have been born since then owe them so much more!
The Australian Draught Horse was developed over the years as a result of the crossbreeding of the four recognized pure draught horse breeds which were in Australia since the colonial days. These breeds are the Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire, Suffolk Punch, (plus the later imported Belgians) and occasionally some light horse bloodlines, as seen in the part draughts

The many thousands of Heavy Horses & Horses in general who perfomed in many ways during the course of their duties and lives,  farming & working the lands. Our lives intertwined for nearly two centuries to help make our country, your country what it is today!

Will 'you' be a part of this, will you help me secure a permanent & bright future for these wonderful horses?

RESCUES – Through many means, surrender, Sales Doggers etc.

REHABILITATE S– However necessary, with some horses this just means getting them to trust people again, others may be on the brink of an untimely end due to mistreatment, starvation or lack of proper care, we have consulting vets that assist in guiding us to the best possible outcome for all horses, including health and medical attention.

RETRAINS - For those that are sound of mind and body, we plan to retrain them to become valuable members of the Equestrian community once again.

REHOME S– Our goal is to find suitable long term homes for all our horses, be they companion horses or those capable of being trained for competition mounts.

HHH was founded in 2011 by Karen Hood who has subsquently been awarded the Independent Property Group Change Reaction Community Hero Award was awarded to Karen Hood in December 2013.

My greatest desire is to see HHH finally in its own permanent home with enough funds to secure its future! We can achieve this together, with your help and support!

I have set the gofundme amount to $95.000 but I hope that this campaign will raise enough funds to also well exceed this amount in order to also allow HHH to purchase a HHH Forever home :)

We gratefully accept your kind donations to the HHH cause and encourage you to also visit the HHH website which will soon be live at www.heavyhorseheaven.com  where adoption and further individual & other support is also available & encouraged from all supporters of
HHH.
