Movie, Books, Mentoring & Guitars

Memoir, Movie and Guitar Method Book. Mentoring. I’m Gregg Hammond — a musician, mentor, author, teacher and philanthropist. I reduce violence through music and mentoring.  I am a volunteer guitar teacher, admin, and as president of the DC Chapter of a children’s music charity, GNG, I have worked for free to serve the underserve youth in our city.

This is a fundraiser for my books, movies, mentoring and guitars in nature programs.

GNG  is a powerful national nonprofit that serves foster kids and at-risk youth across the country. The children learn to play guitar, build self-esteem, and perform music on the stage, in front of real audiences.

For 7 years, I have been dedicated to my volunteer work with at risk-youth, teaching them guitar. I have sacrificed my personal life time, weekends, holidays, family time; volunteering more than 6,000 hours to run the Washington, DC chapter.

I know first-hand how effective and important a mentoring with music program is for each child and the community they live in. I lived through an extremely difficult childhood —my early years were filled with abuse, drugs, and gangs. Through music and the healing power of nature, I found my way to a new path. And
now I witness miracles in the classroom for the youth I’m mentoring.
I have volunteered more hours per week than my full time job. I love what I do. I want to continue. But I need to eat, pay the rent just like everyone else.

Music education has the power to cause the change that we want to see in our community by building self-esteem, encouraging positive choices, and empowering disadvantaged youth.

One of my big life goals:  to bring people all around the world together, all playing the same song at the same time once per year,  playing the global guitar anthem, "Set Me Free," with musicians around the globe each year, on World Music Day, June 21st.

Music around the world will shift the consciousness of our global commuties, bringing us closer together the way all big music events have in the past.

My book projects

In addition to my volunteering for charity, I also founded DC Guitar Lessons in 2005. Since then I have taught more than 4,000 students as a professional guitar teacher. I have changed lives with my patient and effective guitar method. Many students confide: My lessons are more effective than therapy, and less expensive.

After countless requests from my students, I have written a guitar method instruction book  for adults, and am seeking funding to publish it.

I have also almost finished writing a memoir. My screenplay telling my story of how playing the guitar saved my life and inspired my volunteer work with GNG, is at it's next stage: 6,000. needed for the producer, screenwriter to help me properly prepare my treatment, screeplay, and one-sheet and coach me on my verbal pitch "hollywood ready".

I have begun making contacts in Hollywood to work on the next steps for my screenplay. I have almost completed both book proposals, and if I can reach my financial fundraising goal, I will be able to publish both books.

The costs to continue with my work on the books, the screenplay and the movie, require funding to hire professionals, which must come from outside sources. The result of getting the books finished and a movie on the big screen will impact countless communities and offer hope to troubled children and budding musicians around the world.

When this happens, I will donate copies to schools and libraries. These books will help children experiencing verbal abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, poor self-esteem, recruitment by gangs, and/or the fear of never accomplishing anything meaningful in life realize that there is hope: that they do matter, can dream big, set goals, and reach them.

The movie will inspire people struggling with challenges of drug addiction, homelessness, and the sense of loss of direction to get up and BE THE CHANGE they want to see.
