Great Horned Owl Fundraiser

Help us raise & release our rescued Great Horned Owl
Gold Country Wildlife Rescue successfully incubated an orphan Great Horned Owl egg and the GHO is now growing very fast! Any wildlife member that is received by Gold Country Wildlife rescue is reared or rehabilitated for a goal of release back into the wild. Many species, such as this Great Horned Owl, take a great deal of effort and planning to avoid imprinting (thinking that humans are friendly/that a human is its parent) and a great deal of money to keep fed.
The little owl that is trying to hatch in the above photo is now a few weeks old. Every day this Great Horned Owl is eating up to 10 mice or more. Depending on the size/type of mouse that it eats, the cost is just above or slightly below $1.
This Great Horned Owl will be with Gold Country Wildlife Rescue for anywhere from two to three months! That means over the course of its rearing, this owl will eat $500-$900 worth of food! This doesn't even count any of the other rehabilitation expenses or dedicated care of our volunteers.
Gold Country Wildlife Rescue provides free wildlife rescue and rehabilitation services to the greater Placer County, California area. In 2013 we rescued nearly 2,000 wildlife individuals! GCWR runs on volunteer labor, donations, and grants for which we apply.
This fundraiser is to try and see if we can raise money for and cover 20 days worth of feedings for this growing Great Horned Owl. Even if you can only donate "1 mouse" we will be much appreciated! Maybe we can even raise enough to cover food for this Great Horned Owl's entire "stay" with GCWR.
