The Gold Coast Derby Grrls are homeless!

Why do we need a warehouse/practice space? Great question! In August of 2011 and after nearly 64 years in business, the Gold Coast Roller Rink and the place which we called home was closed for business. Since then, we have spent countless hours traveling from place to place looking for a safe and cost effective place to hang our helmets. Sadly, without a place to call home, we cannot be sure there will be much of a future for the Gold Coast Derby Grrls. With your help we can secure a safe practice space that will allow us to give back through community outreach, recreational activities and best of all, generating a junior roller derby league.

GOLD COAST DERBY GRRLS is an all-women's professional Roller Derby league. We are a non-profit organization committed to promoting the sport of roller derby, empowering women, and giving back to our local communities through cultural awareness and support of organizations that make a difference in people's lives.

GCDG was formed in 2007 and proudly represents team members from across Palm Beach, Broward, and Dade counties. We are the only qualified Women's Flat Track Derby Association league in South Florida. We are nationally ranked and in 2011 were the first league ever to achieve initial WFTDA qualification and an invitation to the regional tournament all within the same year. As of January 2014, GCDG is ranked in the top 8% of Roller Derby teams worldwide.

What home means to the Gold Coast Derby Grrls:
"Home" means the place in which you live, but more importantly it is the place in which you feel you belong. Roller Derby is one of the few communities that can say with confidence we accept and welcome all and promote a clear non-discrimination policy that resonates throughout leagues worldwide. We would be grateful to have a place that would allow us to invite people into our home and provide encouragement to explore their passions and help them to learn about themselves in a safe and welcoming environment

What we will do with our new home:
Train hard and make the impossible seem within reach!
This is a very important year for GCDG and the time allotted to practice is important for skaters, coaches and our officials. During our practices, skaters work on their skills while officials work together to enforce the rules of the game. Practicing Roller Derby encourages skaters to stay active and healthy, as well as develop communication skills and build self-confidence.

Junior Derby League:
Securing practice space that we can call home would allow us to provide a safe environment for a junior derby league that will help us to teach our developing youth the importance of team work, brother and sisterhood, strength, acceptance, respect, and most importantly how to also give back to our local communities through fundraising and volunteering. They say it takes a village to raise a child and GCDG hopes to be a supporting, memorable part of that village.

Recreational Derby League:
Roller Derby encourages good physical health, which ultimately impacts mental health. It is commonly known that frequent exercise and good eating habits often lead to an improved perception of your body image and self-esteem. Roller Derby enables you to set these goals and reach them, whether they are to look and feel better about yourself or become a better player and teammate, Roller Derby will help you get there.

Cultural Awareness and Community Outreach:
GCDG is committed to promoting the sport of roller derby, empowering women, and giving back to our local communities through cultural awareness and support of organizations that make a difference in people's lives.

On behalf of the Gold Coast Derby Grrls, we would like say thank you for taking the time to invest in our cause and we hope to see you cheering us on in the crowd in the near future. Your support is important because GCDG is a non-profit, grass roots organization that relies on sponsorship and volunteerism to help reach our goals and make dreams a reality.
