Blue's Surgery Fund

Donation protected

Blue is our rescue from the Humane Society and we adopted him back in December of 2014, he will be turning 1 in May!  He didn't come home last Sunday night so we were starting to fear something was wrong. We put out flyers and talked to neighbors and post "missing cat" photos all over our neighborhood Facebook groups.

We own a small coffee shop in the parking lot of the VCA Vet Hospital and Tuesday mid-morning our veterinarian ran over to my shop to tell me someone brought Blue in and he is in critical condition. I closed the shop and ran over.  He was barely hanging on. He made some sounds and lifted his little head as soon as I got to him but he was cold and limp. They couldn't detect a pulse or a temperature and the flies and maggots were already present! They told us he was on the brink of death and asked if we wanted to move to save him...YES...so they began to warm and stabalize him enough to take x-rays and blood tests.

Amazingly he started to stabalize and come back from hypothermia and shock, so after a few hours they were able to get the x-rays. They found that he was run over by a car and his pelvis was severed from his spine and a hernia had developed that may need to be surgically taken care of. They also told us, IF he can recover from the shock and hypothermia then surgery is the only option for this kind of break. He is young and they tell us he should go on to live a healthy life post surgery...however, this surgery is $6000 plus a trip to Pullman and his current vet bill is already up to $1300. We love our kitty so much, he was a gift and us finding him unadopted at 7 months and learing how amazing he is was beyond me...I just know it was meant to be.

I have watched him go from near death on Tuesday to lifting his head, purring, eating turkey baby food, drinking a little from his water bowl and working to stand up and go to the bathroom today. It doesn't feel right to put him down now and end his desire to survive this.

We have to take him on a trip to Pullman as early as tomorrow morning with a minimum of $600 for a CT scan. Then the surgical costs must be paid at least half up front as far as we know but possibly in full.

We are so very thankful to the woman who found Blue lying in her neighbors yard Tuesday morning. If she didn't stop to get him help, we would not have him right now. The kind woman who chose to help Blue told us her story; Tuesday morning she was taking her dog for a walk and saw a "dead" cat in someones yard. She went to knock on their door to notify them and as they walked over to Blue he surprisingly made some noise so her and her husband took him to the vet hospital.

I am convinced he heard us out calling for him in the nights he was missing...I was so close to where he was found but never went that far...he heard us, I know he must have. Blue is worth it, he is amazing, he has a loving family with kids and dogs who want him home, active and healthy again.  He is truly a gift from God. Thank you for caring enough to read Blue's story.
