Never, ever did I think I would be here again.. After the fundraising for Laura's wheelchair last year we were AMAZED by people's kindness and generosity. We raised the money for Laura as she did not meet the NHS 'criteria' for an electric wheelchair, even though she has not stood up or walked in a year and a half now. This time Laura has been told she is 'not entitled' to funding for a wet room as her boyfriend works and they must pay a minimum fee of £3,000 for the council to do it. After 18 months of not being able to have a bath or a shower due to her disability the council want £3,000 for her to have that basic right. £3,000 for the basic human right of having a shower!? No one should have to pay for that, no one. Her and her boyfriend have both paid into the system and have received no help back for her wheelchair and now no help for Laura to even use the toilet or have a shower. Even if you can just spare £1 that brings us £1 closer than we are right now! Or - long shot maybe - if anyone knows any plumbers who are able to do a wet room free of charge or at a very very minimum cost that would be so amazing and I will make sure they receive all necessary publicity for doing so! I have watched my best friend fight to be allowed a 'normal' life for far too long now and something needs to be done. Something in this system needs to change. No 27 year old woman deserves this life, especially not my beautiful best friend. **Please note - I have set this page up due to several requests from Laura's friends and family and we had not intended to ever have to do this again**
