For Shimek Campgrounds &Trails

Friends of Shimek State Forest Equestrian Trails, Inc.  is a 501c(3) public charity, eligible to receive tax deductible donations.  The mission of Friends of Shimek is to maintain and improve the campground facilities and riding trails at Shimek State Forest, consistent with good forestry management practices.  In addition, Friends of Shimek seeks to educate and advocate for the protection of the natural resources of Shimek State Forest.  The long term goal is to  improve the facilities and equestrian trails in Shimek State Forest through volunteer labor, raising funds, and advocacy.  To this end, FOS combines funds raised with the  funds available to the forest through DNR and funds made available through grants from foundations.  In seeking grants, FOS, with the help of DNR Shimek staff,  uses donated funds and labor as match for projects such as rocking trails to create the Wet Weather Trails and building the three new horse shelters. Funds raised at this site have been used as part of a kiosk replacement project. Current donations are being used to maintain the Wet Weather Trail.   Thank you to all our donors for the help in sustaining our trails and improving the campgrounds.
