In August 2015, For my Sister and The Girls' Agenda will partner to host a Summer Camp for 100 young women between the ages of 14 and 24 in The Gambia. This intensive summer camp will focus on issues that affect the young women's well-being, progress, liberty and freedom. The empowerment forum will cover an intensive introduction to comprehensive sexuality education, life skills including leadership skills learning, education and mentorship for girls, harmful traditional practices (with a focus on early marriage and female genital mutilation), sexual violence and related matters.
For My Sister is a non-profit organization devoted to empowering and enabling young women with the tools and network needed to succeed worldwide through education, mentoring, and service with the guiding motto "I am her and she is me”. The Girls’ Agenda came into existence because young women of a community were moved by the discriminatory social and cultural practices girls suffer from. The lack of equal access to education (especially, at higher level), vulnerability to early and forced marriage, the continuous practice of female genital mutilation despite the serious health consequences, are the daily realities that affect their security and wellbeing. To improve the status of women and girls in their community and having gone through some harmful traditional practices and sexual violence, they created The Girls’ Agenda to move forward the agenda and development of girls and young women.
Any amount of funding and/or assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for supporting our fight for global sisterhood that works to end disparities in education, build healthier and empowered adolescent girls and the eradication of harmful traditional practices worldwide.
