The Jeanne Edge Evans and Nathaniel R. Evans, Sr. Legacy Education Fund

The family of the late Jeanne Edge Evans and Nathaniel Rutherford Evans, Sr. appreciates the tremendous outpouring of love and support we have received since the recent passing of our beloved "Mama", Jeanne Edge Evans, on February 20, 2015. To honor the legacy of our mother and father (who passed in 1989), we have established a fund to support the higher education of deserving students.

The Jeanne Edge Evans and Nathaniel R. Evans, Sr. Legacy Education Fund will provide scholarships to deserving students who are striving to improve their lives through education, thus continuing Mr. and Mrs. Evans' commitment to educational excellence. In our Mother's and Father’s memory, our family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial remembrance contributions be made to The Jeanne Edge Evans and Nathaniel R. Evans, Sr. Legacy Education Fund.

Background:
Jeanne Edge Evans and Nathaniel R. Evans, Sr., career educators, were dedicated to service to others through their commitment to education.  Mr. & Mrs. Evans, graduates of Florida A&M College (now University), married in Winter Park, Florida in 1946.  They began their service as educators in Florida in 1947 and in 1962, settled and established roots in Central Florida.  Mr. and Mrs. Evans dedicated their lives to their children and to their life’s work as principal and teacher, respectively, in the public school system.

For nearly 80 years, collectively, Mr. and Mrs. Evans served the children of Florida's public schools as elementary school and high school educators. Mrs. Evans retired from Washington Shores Elementary School in Orlando in 1992 after 42 years of teaching (30 at Washington Shores). Mr. Evans retired as principal of Eccleston Elementary School in Orlando in 1983 after 37 years as a principal in various Florida public schools.

Together, they had a passion for education, which they instilled in their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They knew and believed that education is the key to each person reaching his or her full potential and they devoted their time, talents and resources to educating their family members and the children that they taught, mentored and loved...in, and outside, of school. Throughout their inspiring lives, they lived the American dream through their commitment to the education of their children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the school children of Florida, to whom they devoted so much of their lives.
