Recording Equipment for GOTAL

Donation protected
We have now raised $1300 from our fundraiser/ external sources! I also found a used computer for much cheaper than a new one! I just changed the goal amount to reflect the amount we still need.

This is a group of amazingly badass female rappers in Dakar, Senegal, where there is not a ton of support for badass female rappers. Despite their well-practiced lyrical skills, females are often unable to get access to local recording studios in Dakar, due to either lack of funds or direct discrimination. So we want to put some gear directly into their hands, person to person, Durham to Dakar, Illegal to GOTAL.

In an incredibly lucky turn of events, Toussa has gotten a visa to travel to the U.S. with the State Department of Senegal for a few weeks. She will be in Durham at the beginning of October for a few days, and we will be able to place gear directly in her hands (and hopefully entice her into doing a live performance for us!). This direct connection is crucial, as the corruption/ politics in Senegal are such that it is nearly/ completely impossible to mail packages to her. Putting equipment directly in her hands is the only way to really assure that the gear does not disappear into the ether. This also necessitates an epic game of tetris- everything that we send her back with must fit into her carry-on luggage. So there are both time and space limitations to this endeavor. But we feel up to the challenge.

So what do they need? Everything, really. We have been emailing with Toussa and doing research in attempt to come up with a wish-list. A pie-in-the-sky list, if you will. It is here: http://amzn.com/w/2QMD4MYYZ6CRH&h=rAQFfiBVM&s=1" rel="nofollow nofollow" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(59, 89, 152); cursor: pointer; text-decoration: none; font-family: 'lucida grande', tahoma, verdana, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 12.727272033691406px; line-height: 14.545454025268555px; background-color: rgb(255, 255, 255);">http://amzn.com/w/2QMD4MYYZ6CRH Over the course of the next month and a half we will be soliciting donations, of both money and gear, culminating in a dance party fundraiser on August 24th. Our plan is to raise as much as we possibly can, and then ask them how they would like to spend it- i.e. what their personal recording equipment priorities are. We will then purchase this equipment, including cords, batteries, etc., get it set up and make sure it all works, and then have it ready to pass off to Toussa at the beginning of October.

We are all scrappy, broke individuals, who are banding together to try to help some other scrappy, broke individuals across a very large ocean, so we will take help in whatever form we can get it. Do you have an extra ipod touch lying around? We'll take it. Is there a USB cord in your corner that you haven't touched in a few months? Toussa can use it. Wanna throw another fundraiser? Hell yes and thank you. Did you stop drinking for a week and wanna throw the $20 you saved towards us? GOTAL will be ever so grateful.
