"24 Hours for Mrs. Smith"
A volunteer driven home revitalization project with community roots
for a 96 year old senior in Carver Shores
October 7, 2013, Orlando, FL: A group of citizens in Orlando are coming together to help renovate 96 year old Mrs. Elizabeth Smith's home in the downtown Orlando community of Carver Shores. Holes in the roof & floor, broken window/doors along with visible mold sparked the groups interesting in helping Mrs. Smith who has lived in the home for over 60+ years.
The home is located at 4643 Raleigh Street and is covered in a blue tarp, temporarily, to help keep the property dry. The project known as "24 Hours for Mrs. Smith" will be a month long renovation culminating with a 24 hour final touches event beginning at 6:00 am on November 9th and concluded at 6:00 am Sunday, November 10th.
All permits have been pulled for the project by the lead contractor Eugene Roberson, Jr. Uniquely, the team of volunteers is seeking donations of lumber and such to start the project. All tile throughout the home has been donated by Trinity Surfaces of Orlando. "Our focus has to be on Mrs. Smith. The conditions are deplorable," said Roberson. (pic below)
We're asking that the local media consider "˜start-to-finish' coverage of the process of requesting donations & renovations to assist us in sharing how a community, together, can truly make a difference. "Together we can make a difference. Together we are making a difference," said Randy Ross organizational volunteer to the project.
