The First Marching Band in BPS

Tax deductible
The English High School is the oldest public high school in the United States of America. Founded in 1821, the school has seen the likes of famous Americans such as J.P. Morgan, Leonard Nimoy, and Herb Chambers.

The first marching band in the Boston Public Schools in fifty years is now a major highlight of The English High School's culture and success. So much so that we were featured on the front page of the Boston Globe on Thanksgiving, November 27, 2014 and on NECN's Making the Grade segment on April 14, 2015.

Our students are 95% minorities from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of them are the first in their families who will go to college. The marching band is key to their academic and social success. The students were brought up by the culture and climate of the school, and now they are the creators of that culture and climate.

This year, the year of the Blue Eagle Marching Band's inception, we had 25 students who marched in uniform in various parades and community events throughout Boston as well as at home football games and the 128th Annual Thanksgiving Day Football Game at Harvard Stadium. This coming school year we are growing that number to forty and adding a color and winter guard of ten to bring the marching band to the next level artistically. Including meaningful and creative movement beyond the marching band's usual drill will provide this life changing opportunity to students who find their passion in dance arts as well as those who are musical.

These are the funding needs for the Marching Band:

Color Guard Equipment (flags, rifles, costumes) FIRST COLOR GUARD IN THE BOSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS EVER!
$3,000

Marching Instruments (sousaphones, melophones, flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, baritones, snare drums, quads, bass drums) to supplement what we already have and offer the opportunity to more students
$11,000

Music Instructional Equipment (music stands, stand racks, music chairs, chair storage carts, podium for drum major, sound equipment for presentations, band risers) to provide students with the best quality environment for learning music
$5,000

More Uniforms (jackets, shoes, pants, hats) for new students and an expanding program
$6,000

With your support we can grow to accommodate more students every year who can discover their potential and thrive in this band and this community. At The English High School we change lives. Thank you for helping us provide this opportunity to more students!
