I have personally known people who were forced into a shelter when several aspects of job, health, and home loss came together in their lives where they had NO place to turn. The help that they got by having a place to live and a phone number to get a job with were priceless! And it is very hard to make a good impression at a job interview when you are literally starving and unwashed!! Getting these people BACK ON THEIR FEET is actually a help to society as well as to these folks who are in such dire straits. I have SEEN shelters help turn lives around and put enough hope in people that they COULD get a job and a place to live.
