Estrada, Costa Rica: Out of the Shadows
Donation protected
Whether sung in a calypso song or spoken in English or Spanish, Estrada is a small Central American town with a wonderful spirit. Having spent some time there doing research on the racialized experiences of Afro-Costa Ricans, we were disturbed to see the material consequences of racism. Schools lack even the most basic of supplies, like toilet paper, notebooks, paper and pencils. There is no police presence in town, or even regular trash pick up.
Your contribution will help fight the material effects of racism and the state's economic neglect. We are asking for a basic donation of $5 to do the following:
1. Provide Schools Supplies (i.e paper, pens, toilet paper, notebooks, hand sanitizer, index cards, folders, pencil cases etc).
2. Deliver Donated Clothing, Shoes, and Supplies Collected.
3. Encourage Cultural Tourism by painting town center, and planting flowers and plants to increase town morale and attract tourists.
Fighting racism and poverty begins by bringing it out of the shadows. Your donation will help Estrada, Costa Rica push forward and upward. We thank you for your donation and would equally appreciate your Facebook share.
