Davis Theatre Goes Digital!

Donation protected
Originally opened in 1934 by J.W. Davis, the 'Davis Theatre' was the jewel of Lafayette County, Missouri. With seating for 750 patrons, the 'Grand Lady' Auditorium was equipped with stadium seating and beautiful leather seats. It was truly ahead of its time, one of a kind, and provided great family fare for many years! A change in ownership caused its closing in the 1980's, but childhood memories prompted the Schwarzer family to purchase the building and lovingly restore it to the era they remembered best. So our community could obtain 1st run movies, 3 additional auditoriums were added several years later (Safari, Tuscan and Cosmic Rooms) making the 'Davis' an honest-to-goodness 4-plex! However, with the advent of digital projection, the ability for this small town community theatre to make this costly transition was overwhelming ... and the screens went dark. Prior to closing in 2012, the Davis Theatre was a first run theatre with small town charm, great movies, and the best popcorn and concession prices around!
The loss of our community theatre was heartbreaking for all of us, and in a quest to see it reopen, 'The Friends of Davis Theatre' was formed. Our first and foremost goal is to reopen this landmark. We are committed to raising the necessary funds for the digital conversion so that the lights may shine on Main Street once again! An additional goal is to transform the 'Grand Lady' into a visual AND performing arts center so both community and school events have a downtown venue. In partnership with Main Street Higginsville, a not-for profit organization, the 'Friends of Davis Theatre' are asking for your help to help pay for this conversion. All donations are tax deductible and will go directly towards the digital conversion of the auditoriums.
If you would like to see this beautiful small-town theatre preserved and here for future generations to enjoy, please support this campaign, and share with others. Initially, we need to raise approximately $150,000 to equip 2 of the 4 theatres, including The Grand Lady, so that we can open on our scheduled date of April 17, 2015! Summer blockbusters, here we come!!
An additional goal is to transform the 'Grand Lady' into a visual AND performing arts center so both community and school theatre and performance groups have a permanent home & a downtown venue.  Once we have the Davis Theatre is up & running it will be administered by the FODT to be a self-sustaining, community-run theatre of the arts.

These funds are held in a special account with Main Street Higginsville and will be utilized with what is raised here for the needed digital projection equipment.
