Cristiano Mex-Walch

Children often teach adults more about life than we ever expect from them. Cristiano has taught so many of us to love deeply, care compassionately, and exhibit strength and have fun each and every day! At two years old, he understands the life lessons many of us never learn. He teaches us these lessons to help remind us that life is full of wonder and heart even in the most difficult of times.

This week was the beginning of a series of difficult events for Cristiano and his parents. On Saturday, Cristiano was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Washington, DC where he was diagnosed with leukemia.  Not once, since that day has Cristiano stopped teaching every Doctor or Nurse he interacts with the importance of these lessons.

St. Jude’s reports that the average cost of only the medical treatment for leukemia is well over five hundred thousand dollars. This does not include any cost incurred by the parents to remain by their child’s side. Most parents don’t think twice about the cost; there is no amount of money they wouldn’t spend to make their child better. Yet,  this is one of the many issues that can cause stress, additional anxiety and more life changing events in a time when Audra and Rafa need to be healthy and available for the love, compassion, strength and fun Cristiano taught them.
