HELP NEPAL'S REMOTE VILLAGES
My dearest friends, the people of Nepal need your help right now. Aid is not reaching remote villages; the basic necessities of food, water and shelter are desperately needed.
Most media attention has been centered around the Kathmandu and Everest regions, but this campaign is focused specifically on the rural mountain villages of the Gorkha region, the earthquake epicenter. We're continually receiving reports, from people who have had contact with nearby villages, that no help has yet arrived.
Working out of Pokhara, 60 miles to the west of this region, we are a small team of passionate multinationals, experienced trekkers, concerned Nepali volunteers and local business owners with the goal to accomplish two tasks: first set up immediate relief to these rural villages cut off by the earthquake, and, second, set up long term rebuilding efforts. We have devised a strategy to provide our own relief effort to these remote villages where aid has yet to arrive. Within our first two days we have already begun the purchasing of food and supplies, hiring experienced porters, and enlisting the help of other volunteers to undertake two day treks to some of these villages.
Every dollar helps and I will ensure that the money that you donate is going directly to those in need. I will update you with villages that have been supported and provide you with pictures to show you the impact that you are making.
SHORT TERM GOALS
Our primary concern is to work quickly to bring immediate relief. Many of these remote villages grow their own food and rely on their livestock to sustain themselves, with other essentials brought in by porters. With roads now cut off by landslides, and the loss of their homes, gardens and livestock, these villages are now struggling to survive.
Our plan is to deliver shelter, essential foods, medical and clothing supplies as quickly as possible, by working with local Nepali business owners who have transport and logistical connections. Once the goods are moved as far as possible by road, we, along with local help, will transport them on foot, to reach these remote areas.
Your contribution will help buy:
- Food: rice, Dahl (lentils), noodles, salt spices, cooking oil, etc.
- Water and water purification supplies.
- Tents, tarps, mattresses, and blankets.
- First Aid: Bandages, splints, dressing pads, gloves, blades, antibiotics, and more.
- Other supplies, such as matches, and soap.
LONG TERM GOALS
Our long term initiative will help establish a framework for the rebuilding effort. Additional funds will be used to buy building supplies, livestock, and other essentials, in order to help these families get back on their feet.
WHY DONATE TO US
The local Nepali people we work with have the logistical and family ties to this region, while we have the international connections that can generate the funds for these critically needed supplies (that is, you, my friends).
By working closely with the affected families and the relief effort, we will personally oversee that the money you contribute directly goes to this relief effort.
Every $100 that is raised can save a family and help feed them for 2-3 weeks.
Just $25 will tent a family and protect them from the rain during the current monsoon season.
