Christina Burke & Family Support

Donation protected
In the early morning hours of April 12, 2015, Christina Burke woke up with a seizure. It had been only four weeks since she had given birth to her daughter, Sofia Ruth, by emergency C section. An MRI revealed a brain tumor measuring 28mm by 48 mm in the front area of her right temporal lobe. Because of its size and location, the glioma cannot be surgically removed, so Christina is learning about her treatment options. A biopsy's results were inconclusive regarding the type of tumor and its growth, so the biopsy specimen will be sent to the Mayo Clinic for further evaluation and possibly molecular testing.

Christina has since been discharged to return home to her newborn daughter, her husband Russell and her sweet, boisterous 5-year-old son Christian. However, she is unable to watch the children on her own, requiring Russell to take time off work. Further, her work as a freelance photojournalist and photography instructor at The Art Institute of Austin does not provide disability compensation, and Russell will quickly run out of sick time.

As the family anxiously awaits the results of the additional tumor analysis and the opportunity to discuss a treatment plan, their living expenses are adding up. They need help meeting living expenses and will eventually need help for travel expenses for treatment at MD Anderson in Houston and possibly other facilities.

The next several weeks and months are uncertain for Christina and her family, but they are grateful for all the prayers and support pouring in. Any financial contributions are greatly appreciated to defray their living and medical expenses. This page will continue to update with Christina's progress.
