Christian Guzman was not your average student. Anyone who knew him was inspired to be better and stronger than they thought they were.

Christian graduated from East Valley High School in North Hollywood with honors in 2011, and was preparing to graduate from UCLA with a B.S. in Physics in Spring 2015 when he passed away.

Christian was born with Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and dealt with the physical and emotional complications that diagnosis brings each and every day. Despite the challenges of Muscular Dystrophy, Christian was an exemplary student and an active member of the UCLA Posse Foundation Scholars program. He was known for wheeling around campus in his chair, and making sure everyone he met had a good laugh that day.

At the candlelight vigil held at UCLA to honor his life his mother said, " I don't know how many nights of his life he didn't sleep doing his homework getting ready to take a test. I am very proud of him; he always inspired me to face life's problems. He taught me that there are no obstacles, only solutions."

We ask for your support to give another student from East Valley the chance to achieve their dreams in spite of adversity. We aim to raise enough money to give one $500 scholarship each year to a graduating senior who has also faced hardship and persevered.
