Berubians for Chris Berube

In Hollywood, it's not often you find someone who cares enough about you to nurture your spirit and your craft. Especially, at their own expense.

Chris Berube is one of those rare gems. Owner of six Southern California Black Box Theaters, director and writer of well over ten currently running plays in his Los Angeles theaters, The Next Stage and the Tre Stage, he gives his troup of Berubians more than he sometimes has to give.  He performs on stage and provides tech for shows, every single day of the week. He offers his talents in writing, counseling and humor on a daily basis, through free workshops and as an amazing friend and father figure. He is the type of man to give you the shirt off his back and the last $20 in his pocket.

He treats us as his own and adopts every single one of us that comes through his doors. With most of us being transplants to Los Angeles, our own biological families are hundreds, if not thousands, of miles away. Chris is the glue that holds us together and the backbone to our theater family.  There are so many qualities of his that we each look up to and find strength in, not the least of which is that he is a Cancer Survivor.

Unfortunately, he leaves us for half a day or more, once or twice a week, when symptoms of his Factor V Leiden thrombophilia become too much for him to bear.  As opposed to Hemophilia, Factor V Leiden thickens the blood to the point of causing clots, which can be fatal if not treated right away. Luckily, Chris can sense the symptoms coming on and can usually nip it in the bud by checking himself in to the hospital. Of course, that never lessens our concern each and every time it happens.

Recently, he was informed that he needed surgery, which was completed July 4th 2015. He has since been advised that another surgery is necessary to now remove a number of polyps in his intestines before they too become fatal.

It is with the addition of this most recent surgery that our beloved and fearless leader is in more financial need than ever to be able to afford this imperative surgery.

Please help us to help him as it is the least we can do for him after all that he has selflessly done and continues to do for all of us.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
