Trip to UN for Human Rights Summit

Donation protected
Hi Friends!

I'm a rising sophomore at Stanford University with a huge interest in international human rights. I'm actually majoring in International Relations with focuses in Wellness & Development and South & Southeast Asian Studies.

This summer I have been working three internships in Washington, DC. The first, as a Media Relations Intern for AARP, and the second, as an Intern for AARP International (the third is for an underground comedy group #edgy). AARP International seeks to help people live longer, healthier, more financially secure and productive lives by identifying and sharing the best ideas and practices on key policy issues. We work with thought leaders all over the globe to discover the best ways to ensure fulfilling lives for our older friends, and we've also contributed towards international disaster relief in our work with Japan and Haiti.

I've loved my time as an intern at AARP so far, and I'm ecstatic that they've offered me the opportunity to travel to the United Nations headquarters in New York City for the UN Open-Ended Working Group on Ageing convention. It's a fantastic opportunity to participate in making real change, which doesn't normally happen for interns at my level. Plus, it brings me a step closer to my goal of turning human rights advocacy into a lifelong career.

AARP International is one of the smaller groups within AARP, and is unable to fund my travel & accomodation expenses. That's where you come in! I've determined the budget for this trip is roughly $575 to cover:

$200 round-trip airfare
$325 for 5 nights as a guest in a friend's apartment in New York City (apartment policy, though $65 bucks a night is pretty thrifty)
$30 for a 7-Day unlimited MetroCard
The remaining $20 will go towards transportation to and from the airport, food, and whatever sales tax each of these items might have.

Even with the help of your generous donations, there will be a significant portion of this trip coming out of my personal savings -- which as a college student aren't very much.

Anything helps & Thank you for reading my story!
