Bubba Fund!!!

My son, Duffie aka Bubba, was born 4weeks early. When the doc's decided to do an x-ray of his lungs they found an "intrusion" in his intestine. Bubba was immediately transported to Children's Hospital, Aurora, Colorado, where he went into emergency surgery.

When he came out of surgery they informed us that he had a Volvulus (intestine twisted on it's self cutting of circulation making part of it die off). Humans are suppose to be born with 200 some inches of intestine, Bubba was left with only 27cm. Due to the new condition, labeled as Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS/Short Gut) at 2 days old he went in for surgery again.

During this surgery they placed a G-tube (intral feeding tube that goes directly to his stomach), A Broviac line (tunneled IV cath. directly to the heart) used for TPN/lipids and a colostomy (the colostomy was eventually removed and he was able to have everything reconnected, still no advancments on feeds).

TPN/lipids is an IV medicine that gives Bubba all the nutrition he should get from food but due to the SBS he is unable to feed. We have tried to start feeds on many occasions. It's a very short lived period of time.

Due to the broviac he can easily get infections and has had many blood infections, we have had four more placed so five total since birth.  Once a broviac is replaced we loose a site, thus narrowing down the number of places we can place  a Broviac (IV).

So far he has been TPN/lipid dependent meaning the medicine that is helping to keep him happy and alive is also causing liver damage and eventually liver disease. (HE can not remain on TPN/lipids forever!!) So we looked into doing a combined intestianl/liver transplant (last option available).

Bubba and I (Monique aka mom) went out to Omaha, Nebraska for a week at the beginning of June 2012. Unfortunately once we returned home we recieved a phone call after a few days informing us that Bubba was not approved for transplant. The team at The Nebraska Medical Center decided that it would be best to hold off as long as possible.

So he will recieve a transplant in the future just not as soon as we would have hoped.(Basically he has to have be at the verge of death before being put on a waiting list)

Unfortunatley because of my sons medical condition, and him requiring 24/7 medical care I am unable to work and live month to month on disability (which barely pays the bills, nothing left over). So I, Monique, have started this website to try and raise money for our many trips in the future. All funds raised will be used only during trips and only necessities that apply to Bubba.)

Your donations are greatly appreciated!!! Thank you to all!!
